This and that

At last a few stitches added to Coastal piece. Can you spot the additions.

It`s a start but oh dear, still loads to do.
Packing continues. Boxes have been delivered and are being filled.

Empty shelves.

No idea where everything will find a place. Studio boxes are going into the garage and shed until some decisions are made

More plants ready to move into a new garden.

No idea where they are going. May have to stay in the pots for sometime. Hope the removal men can lift them.

These earrings were made by my granddaughter. I love them. Silver and garnets.
She and her friend shared a stall at Glasgow Street Fair. Bought a ring from the collection my granddaughter had made and earrings from her friend.

The weather was dreadful, rain and more rain but people were buying and the girls were enjoying the experience.
This is Our Willie. If you are not Scottish, he is a comic character, a schoolboy in endless trouble. 60 are being made as a fund raising exercise. I am a member of Kalamkari, a textile group and we have been involved in decorating one of the 60, not quite finished.

I think the blog posts might be a bit hit and miss over the next few weeks as moving day draws ever nearer.

The Himalayan poppies are out. I grew them from seed when I came to this garden. They have really thrived.

Still packing

It is sometime since I had a rant. Have been staying at friends and had a lovely week. Came home to no internet connection, so continues my love, hate relationship with my laptop.
Time for the rant. 20 minutes on hold, trying to connect with BT. Kept being told lines were very busy. Employ More Operators. I was advised to go on their website. I had made it quite clear it was a problem with my internet connection. Maddening. At last a very pleasant man fixed it in 3 minutes. I think the expression is" BT does my head in."

Still packing. Had an idea to print pretty labels for my boxes but life is too short so quick scribbles to identify contents. Perhaps when life is calmer and I am looking for something to fill my time I may return to this idea. Well maybe not.

Each box has been tidied from this.

To this. It all looks very organized for now.
Workroom is gradually being packed up.

Desk cleared.
Looking through another old workbook. Plastic shapes from commercial fishing lines were the starting point.

Working through ideas.

Made using my embellisher and hand couching.

Fellow students, at the time, named it the pizza
quilt.

The whole 9 patch quilt was 30 inches + 30 inches.
Has been interesting looking back as my work is so different now. Collage was about trying every technique and material. Experimenting and extending ideas, getting feedback from tutors and fellow students. I did take some stick over this piece of work but it got an A.
Need to get on packing up my workroom.

Only 5 weeks to go before I move. Trying to stay calm and work my way through each room systematically but do get side tracked looking at old art work.
Hope you will look in next week to see if I have managed to do any stitching. Coastline piece is screaming out for attention.

Revisiting

Unearthing old workbooks and revisiting past work.

This was the final piece I made for my City + Guilds Creative Embroidery  Diploma. X amount of years ago.

It was my reaction to these 2 Magazine pictures.  They made me sad and angry at the time and revisiting them I still feel sad and angry. The little girl, looking on, would soon be covered like the women.

The headpiece and veil were my take on headgear for a member of the Taliban .It was called Retaliation Retribution.
Samples to work out ideas before the piece was started.

The piece was made in sections. At the time I was studying nomadic people and the way their household goods were made to be folded and wrapped, making packing and transportation easier.

Unfortunately my household goods are not so easy to pack.

It has been fun revisiting this piece of work. Should just be packing but can`t resist looking at my old workbooks.
Look in next week to view what else I unearth.

New horizons

Trying not to get too excited. Subject to contracts being signed I have a new house. All happened very quickly, after looking at dozens, one turns up almost perfect and my offer was accepted. Big breaths, I can hardly believe it. New horizons. I am packing in earnest now.

Stuff to go. Just the beginning, I plan to really downsize.

Stuff to keep.
Wake up in the night wondering how I begin to pack up my workroom.

One item at a time is the answer.

Workroom will be piled up in the shed until I can sort out a studio. It will be chaos.
Not much stitching this week, trying to get my head round the idea I am heading for new horizons.

Have added straight stitching to finish these pieces

Stitched the last piece of seaweed.
Plants waiting to go to their new home.

I am really so excited but it is tinged with some sadness.
There has been two collared doves in this garden since I came to live here. I hope they follow me to my new garden. They are always together and look so elegant.

Look in next week to view how I am managing the packing and will I find time to tackle the stitching to complete the "fences" for the coastline piece. I am not confident about managing that.

Time to go

Monthly visit with creative friends. Forgot my camera. I had planned to photograph the room we work in. We work on our own projects but share ideas and tips and always have a lots of laughter. Cake is an extra treat. I always come home refreshed.
Have almost finished 2nd piece.

Have changed the shells as they appeared too large

This colour is better I think.

Some stitching still to be completed on the seaweed.

Start of 3rd piece.

This will be the 4th and top piece.
Now need to work on the "Fences" which will join the pieces together.
House hunting has been put on hold for a few weeks. The one I thought I would be able to make another life story in, was bought by someone else. Took a few weeks to recover but I am on the search again.
Time to leave this house. One morning last week, drew back the curtains to see this.

Plastic. The farmer for the first time is not growing potatoes or barley. He has put turnips, in all the fields and under cover. I will so miss the colour in the fields when the barley is ripe.

So time to go.
Look in next week to view if  I have worked out "Fences"  to join the pieces together and hear how house hunting is going.
